Henry’s Soul Cafe Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

  • Tony B.

I give Henry 4.5-5 stars. The food is full of flavor. We got the fried chicken, turkey wings, cabbage, stuffing, soul fries, and .... wait for it the pie. At the top of the list is the famous pie as mentioned on their menu. The pie is out of a fairy tale sugar spice and everything nice. One of their frequent customers was in there to buy 2-whole pies because they are that good. The fried chicken is well season and crispy like it should. I'm looking forward to stopping in later for the pork chop. Overall the great spot the folks are nice and the price is right.

Been here a few times since it's walking distance from my home. I love the sweet potato pie...omg it's like heaven in your mouth. I ordered the turkey wing dinner with mac and cheese and greens, which was pretty good but the gravy could have been seasoned more and the mac could use some help. I got the pie free because of the long wait. It's true yelpers, this place is busy so call or be prepared to wait, especially on the weekend. It's a hole in the wall joint so don't go looking to sit down.

I've been here two times and the first time I have the salmon cakes, mac and cheese, and green beans. It was pretty good minus the fact my 2yrs old ate up all my green beans. So today I had the same thing, and the food was WAY TOO SALTY!!! All I had to do was take one bite and my blood pressure went up. Not only was my food way too salty but so way my husband's bbq pork ribs. Very disappointed with the food today. I don't kno if I'll ever go back there again. They really need to stick to a recipe and use it all the time so the food taste the same every single time.

Today a friend and I visited this restaurant after a beautiful day at the park. A modest establishment with a soul food vibe. I ordered the smothered pork chop dinner which comes with 2 pork chops with your chose of white/wheat or corn bread (I chose wheat) and 2 sides. I ordered cole saw but they were out so I settled with Mac and cheese and rice with gravy. The smothered pork chops were amazing and the Mac and cheese was also pretty good. The rice was not the best I've had but I'm not the biggest fan of white rice. I finished the meal very satisfied and decided to order a slice of pound cake. This turned out to be the best decision of the day. I thought the pound cake would be dry, but it actually was very moist and decadent. It was probably one of the best pound cakes I've ever had in my life. I was very satisfied with the meal over all. The service was not the best in the world- I didn't expect it to be as mostly everyone's order was take out and only we and one other person dined in- but the food made up for any service shortcomings. I'd definitely return here for good soul food in a pinch!

I wanted to like this place, but the food is mediocore. The fried chicken was ok but I have had better soul food. The sides were mediocre at best but nothing to write home about.

Henry's Soul Food Cafe satisfies my desire for soul food cooking on nights when I don't have the energy to cook. I normally get the fried fish, yams, greens and cornbread(which is always phenomenal). They serve a substantial amount but the prices are decent in that you can get a nice smaller meal as well

Let's be honest, you're not paying an astronomical amount of $ when you eat here so I'm not going to be super picky. For the price, I believe the food is worth it. I usually always get the 1/2 fried chicken dinner (ask for the Mambo sauce on the side its DELICIOUS) with a variation of sides. I will say get the candied yams, mashed potatoes w/gravy, macaroni and cheese and I believe the greens are decent. The sweet tea is good, diabetes in a cup probably lol The service is good, the wait can sometimes be a little long in my opinion so I suggest calling your order in 25 minutes in advance. To end- If you're craving some soulfoood and you are in the area I highly suggest giving it a try.

Had the fried porkchop dinner and it tasted okay. The chops could have had more flavor and been thicker for the price, the potatoesalad was okay, and the greens were good. Service was great tho.

There not too many good soul food places in the DMV... But after stumbling across this spot, Henry's now will do ! I've had the fried whiting and the fried chicken. My sides are usually the greens, which are flavorful, potato salad- which I love!!, yams & Mac & cheese, which sometimes is a bit bland.... The sweet potato pie is also really good. I will definitely frequent this place when I'm craving some souls food!!

Considering what the Metro Area has to offer Henrys isn't too shabby. I've ordered several entrees on the menu i.e. catfish, liver and onions, and fried chicken. Now fried chicken isn't something I love unlike most, so if you want some good chicken Henrys isn't playing around. Seasoned perfectly, hot and not greasy. We've ordered a troth of them, lol, just to compliment the other sides for a Sunday dinner. The mac and cheese are okay, no awards. The greens are pretty good and everything else is pretty good. The staff has always been helpful and most courteous Good eats!!

Fried chicken and fish BOMB! Mac and cheese BOMB! Mumbo Sauce BOMB! I don't know why I've never eaten here. The place isn't easy on the eyes but the food is great.

My first visit here (1998) the food was awesome. Fast forward to 2013, what in the hell happened? How does a soul food restaurant serve bland food? I purchased a fried chicken wing dinner which was horrible. How is this place still in businesses? I wish I could rate Hernry's a negative star.

Why Henry, Why!!! This used to be the spot! What happened? There was once a time when I was certain that THIS is what they ate at The Last Supper. Ribs, Chicken, Fish, Mac n' cheese...I'd start a religion after eating there. But the last few times I've gone the food has just been...bad. I'm not talking about "needs more salt." I'm talking about, "Why is there ice in my macaroni and cheese...wait, is this still frozen in the middle?" I'm talking, "My fish tastes like it died two weeks ago and they just decided to batter and fry it." I've had bad food three times in a row. I can't do it anymore, but Henry...I'm gonna play this Whitney Houston "Didn't We Almost Have It All" just for you.

First time customers my husband and i both had the fried porkchop with gravy and cabbage and macaroni n cheese. Cabbage is soo bomb cooked just right, macaroni n cheese is ok, porkchops is devine. The cashier CHRISSY needs customer service training. When give your customer their food and they say thank you dont reply back hmmmm. She needs proper etiquette on service, why would you put my napkin and utensil inside of my box, now i gota soogy napkin, only one fork no knife, spoon. You gotta keep going back up to the register to get what you need and her attitude is a turn off for business. She plays around to much with customers she knows and pays no mind to the phone calls for orders. She needs to go, get someone else with experience to make customers feel warm not cold

Wow... after reading the other reviews on this page I had to question whether my review was warranted. Perhaps I just have had a fortunate luck with catching Henrys at the right time with the right chef. I can't relate to many of the experiences that people have had... I have been to Henrys about 10 times and I have had good experiences about 9 out of 10... The food is normally good, service has always been fine the wait time is sometimes a little longer but thats what happens when you aren't waiting for Mc Donalds Microwaved hamburgers. I think the restaraunt is a little dingy and run down, the parking lot can be a little dark and the inside lighting sets the wrong atmosphere but the food has always been good. I am going their after work and hope I don't end up eating my words.

Well...my fiance had rave reviews about this place but when I told him to pick us up some beef ribs tonight...eh....wth? He told me that before Henry Sr. passed the cafe used to be the spot. I guess the quality left with him. "There is nothing we can do unless you drive up here and bring the food back", says current crew. I guess I should've taken the bones back because that's all there was.

I think Henry's is aight. I just recently came back to the area from college in Philadelphia and was craving for some Henrys because I remember the quality of the food there when I left 5 years ago. It was definitely popping then. Now, it's nothing to get too excited over. They do a broiled tilapia that's pretty good and the fried fish is good also. But I've had better beef ribs at my uncles house. And I make a better sweet potato pie myself. I found it much too sweet. And thats supposed to be what they're known for. Go in there with the mindset that they ain't doing anything better in here than your grandma, your aunt, or your momma--that way you wont be disappointed. Take Henrys for what its worth. They're fast soul food that you don't have to make yourself! Definitely beats McDonalds!

We love this place! When we first moved to the area, we couldn't find a soul food place that we were willing to call "the one". --Lots of fru-fru southern fusion, but nothing that was just good down home food. So, so, so glad we found this place. Definitely not a dine in place, but the food is excellent. I always order the fried cat fish and my husband gets the fried chicken or smothered pork chops. All the sides are great, no complaints. I haven't tried their sweet potato pie, this is supposed to be their claim to fame...maybe I'll try it next time. Best to call ahead, since there''s always a line.

went on a sunday afternoon, the staff is friendly and to wait wasnt too bad but the food at this location has really gone downhill i ate here a fee times before years ago when i was in the area based on convenience and it was never the best but it was decent. yesterday i got wings, mac & cheese, yams and cabbage. first of all i had 2 wings that i believe they forgot to pluck. ive never been served chicken from a restaurant that had so many feathers. didnt make a big deal just tossed them to the side made me uncomfortable because to me that says they dont clean their food properly, the cabbage just tasted as if they cut it up and just boiled it. zero flavor, the mac & cheese tasted funny cant really put my finger on it. maybe it was old ? and the yams were just mediocre. with thats being said i dont believe i would go back to that location. i always put them one step above levis, but now idk

Okay...Here's how I feel! I was sitting at my desk at work today and it was coming close to lunchtime so my co-worker and I decided that we try Henry's for the first time since it was "SOUL FOOD" and we had a craving for it. Upon our arrival, there was only one car in the parking lot because they had just opened up at about 11:30. When we got inside the place, there was another older gentleman standing at the counter ordering his food. We then noticed that some girl (at the counter/cash register) who was smacking and chewing on something in her mouth as she talked and assisted the customer which we thought "well, how rude it is to literally chew food, smack your lips and talk to a customer all at the same time. We couldn't believe because she just kept chewing and talking with her mouth full of whatever it was she was eating. It was FREEZING in the place as well. Then low and behold, she breaks out a big yellow portable heater and rested it ON TOP of the counter and turned it directly to herself. My co-worker and i just looked at each other like" Isn't this place the most GHETTO place WE'VE STEPPED into . The location is kind of hidden and off to the side. So it was our turn to order our food. My order consisted of, 4 chicken wings, mac n cheese, fried okra, and a sweet potato pie. The wait wasn't bad so we paid and left. When I got back to my desk just hungry and excited (to eat) in hopes that my lunch is going to taste delicious as it looked and sounded on the menu..and it it wasn't!!!!!!!!. I was DEVASTATED! The wings had no seasoning and was oh so dry, the mac n cheese was overcooked and soggy. The fried okra was too oily and hard. The cornbread that came with the dinner had an annoying fishy smell to it and tasted like it was soaking in fish oil. The sweet potato pie was soooooooooooooooo sweet that my first bite was my last bite and into the trash it went. I paid a total of $13.95 for my meal and it was ABSOLUTELY a waste of my time and my money! Why are they advertising llke they are the best in DC, etc. Please STOP fooling people!! This place looks awful on the inside/outside and the fool tastes awful as well. When you look in the back of the kitchen you can see people handling your food with no hair nets, they were scratching their noses with their gloves on, I observed one gentleman who touched the door and open it with his gloved hands and went back inside to retrieve another lunch plate. One word: EEEEEEEEwwwwwwwww!! NEVER, EVER again! This place needs to be SHUT DOWN! Hurry someone please shut it down!

Well, I was visiting friends, and I had been complaining about my perception of the lack of soul food joints in the D.C. area. Finally, my friend agrees to take me to one. She tells me about Levi's (see my review), which she said she preferred, but people rant and rave about Henry's. So, we dip into Henry's first. First, the place was very small. The cashier seemed quite frazzled, and there was a long line of people waiting to order. So, I order the meatloaf, and then am told "there is no more meatloaf". Well, why the heck do you still have it posted on your board???? My friend orders the BBQ chicken, and we're told, "there is no more BBQ chicken today". Granted, we went at dinner time, but I don't get it. If you serve lunch AND dinner, why wouldn't you cook enough, or continue to cook food, to serve through your business hours? DUH. We left, and went to Levi's, which was off the hook!

Adrienne, I'm sorry for your experience- but the food is BANGING!!! Henry's Soul Cafe is so good. Their fried fish, yams, and cornbread is wonderful. If you notice in the first review- there was a long line of people waiting...that's because their food is delicious.
